▶ LOCATIONS.
▷ LOCATIONS
▶ 001 NEO TOKYO.
On their downtime, characters are free to leave the main base and explore the colourful city of Neo Tokyo, with its flashing, neon signs and busy shops. Even under the constant threat of a Kaiju attack, the people of Neo Tokyo have made the most out of their difficult situation. There are clear signs of past attacks, with run down, abandoned buildings and empty, destroyed shops all over the city. Yet, there continues to be a functional train system taking commuters to their destinations, apartment buildings full of people, and numerous shops, restaurants and ways to kill time. It's a bit of a mixed bag in this city, that's for sure.
While a lot of the city is decrepit, with the support of LILITH, the residents have also kept up with the times. It's not uncommon at all to see a robot at the front desk, taking your order and serving your food. It also isn't uncommon to see little robot pets, drones or a child on a luminescent hoverboard zipping by.
✘ APARTMENT BUILDINGS
Much like every big city, most people in Neo Tokyo live in high-rise apartment buildings. These buildings range from completely run-down and unlivable, to the swankiest condominium one can dream of. Most residents in Neo Tokyo (or the ones who can afford it, anyway) live in the buildings refurbished by LILITH. These buildings are set up with emergency safeguards for when a Kaiju attack is imminent. They come with ground-level latches that flip open when the emergency response is activated, and like clockwork, characters can witness the remarkable sight of most of the city sinking into the ground. Of course, the older buildings aren't quite set up this way, and are completely vulnerable to any sort of attack. Good thing no one actually lives in them, right?
... Right?
LILITH strongly encourages characters to live in the main base and not in any of the buildings in Neo Tokyo. Defying this order constitutes abscondment from LILITH, which could result in disciplinary action.
✘ NEO TOKYO METRO
The livable parts of Neo Tokyo are connected by the old Tokyo train system (with refurbished trains, of course). Characters familiar with Tokyo might recognise popular stations such as Shibuya, Shinjuku, Ueno and many more. The Metro no longer services the outer parts of Tokyo as these areas have been destroyed. Characters can access the metro directly from LILITH's main base as there is a station there.
✘ SHRINES AND TEMPLES
There are shrines and temples spread out across the city. Characters familiar with the area may find some of the notable ones still around but they may also find new ones that are unique to Neo Tokyo. They are noted for their mix of new cybertech and old traditions and tend to be some of the quieter parts of the city thanks to noise canceling technology. During festive periods, these areas become hubs of activity as people gather for whatever celebration may be taking place.
One of the biggest shrines is located near the main base in Shinjuku. It is popular with some of LILITH's agents and it's not uncommon to run into other members from time to time, especially at festivals.
✘ SHOPS AND BUSINESSES
Neo Tokyo is littered with shops and attractions, big and small. There's always something good to eat and something to kill the time with. We welcome players to create shops and businesses for our setting by putting in submissions here— whether this is player-ran or whether you would prefer to just come up with one that is completely ran by an NPC is up to you! In the case that a character with a business drops, the business will automatically be operated by an AI bot. LILITH provides a monthly stipend but it's far from enough to live a comfortable life in the city. Characters are free to work in any of the below businesses or in any of the businesses submitted by players.‣ CONVENIENCE STORES. Convenience stores such as '7-10' and 'Dawson' can be found easily throughout the city. There, you can find a quick bite or some quick supplies and essentials. They are usually staffed by a robot (but anyone can apply to work in them).✘ TOKYO BAY
‣ KARAOKE BARS. These can be found all over the city as well. They offer private, soundproof rooms with an array of songs to choose from. Most of the songs will likely be unfamiliar to characters, given that this is an entirely different world. However, there is an option to connect your chip to the karaoke machine and have it scan your memory for songs from your home you might enjoy singing. These bars serve finger foods and alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks. They are usually staffed by robots as well (but anyone can apply to work in them).
‣ FOOD AND BEVERAGE. An array of different sorts of restaurants are available in Neo Tokyo, ranging from the worldwide famous fast food chains (such as 'JFC'), hole-in-the-wall ramen stands and high end gourmet dining. It can be noted that the chain restaurants tend to be staffed by robots, while the older-looking ramen stands and smaller eateries are staffed by actual people (who are very passionate about their food).
‣ MARKET DISTRICTS. There are some market districts scattered across the city. All of the open-air ones have been destroyed or abandoned so all that remains are clustered markets in covered streets or in large buildings. Characters will find all sorts of small, independent businesses where locals can trade, barter, and sell different goods and services ranging from food, trinkets, or services. While most of the shops at the front are perfectly legitimate, characters may find seedier businesses tucked away in small alleys or the backs of buildings.
‣ LILICO GAME CENTER. LILITH'S gift to the people of Neo Tokyo, to keep them happy and distracted from their plight. Hard to miss, with its flashing neon lights, huge posters of game characters and game machines on display, LILICO Game Centre is a popular (and huge) VR Arcade located in the center of Akihabara. You can find just about any form of entertainment here: Claw machines, Gachapon machines, arcade games of any sort imaginable, a pachinko parlour, and the shining star of the center: The Immersive VR experience. LILITH has perfected the VR simulation technology they used to reserve only for training simulations, and have turned it into a fun game for all! When characters enter the VR Room, their chip will be automatically connected to the system, and they will be treated to any sort of experience they desire. Want to go floating on the moon? You got it! Want to relive the best memories of your life? Yup, go ahead! Want to play a game of tennis in a run-down city with no actual tennis courts? The VR is here for you. If they so desire, characters can also use the VR Room for certain ... adult experiences. LILITH does not judge as long as you're having fun. What happens in the VR Room stays in the VR Room.
If players want a certain experience in the VR that characters would not typically ask for, you can simply say there was a glitch, or that the VR read their mind and acted on its own.
Due to the danger of Kaiju appearing from the sea, most people stay away from the coast and many of the lines that would lead to the ports and beaches are destroyed. The area is still accessible to characters who want to venture out. However, many of the train lines stop before you can get there so characters will have to follow the abandoned tracks and walk an hour or two to reach the sea.
Many of the beaches have been destroyed and are littered with wreckage and debris from past events. The water is always dark and the beaches are quiet save for the saves. Characters may walk along the coast but are urged to not go too far due to how vulnerable they would be.
✘ OUTSIDE THE CITY
The outer parts of the main city are not accessible by train, but LILITH isn't going to stop you if you want to explore (as long as there is no Kaiju alert). They will need to be accessed by foot or some sort of vehicle. There isn't much out there, unfortunately - only run down, abandoned old houses and barren land. For those who enjoy the aesthetic of abandoned places, you are free to explore the old houses, shops and schools. It's quite clear that many people had to leave in a hurry - if they managed to leave at all. With the smashed buildings, and the larger than life claw marks and foot prints one might be able to find, it's pretty obvious what had happened here.
A few abandoned theme parks can be found. Most of them are on the smaller side and now they are nothing more than skeletons of what they once were. There is nothing to see but mangled rides and ruined dream castles. These parks no longer have power but characters may be able to temporarily jumpstart some of the smaller systems with a power source.
There is one little pocket in the outer suburbs that's gone fairly unscathed. There, you will find a traditional-looking building with a natural hot spring that offers a relaxing and authentic onsen experience. Though wearing down with age, the owners of this onsen insist on clinging to their livelihood and have refused to take refuge in the big city. For a fee, characters can enjoy a hearty, traditional meal and enjoy the healing properties of the natural hot spring. For some reason, a colony of feral cats have also flourished in this region, so it's not too uncommon to see one relaxing nearby as you soak.
▶ 002 KYOTO.
Unlike Neo-Tokyo with its array of neon lights and bustling traffic, the city of Kyoto is largely abandoned. The streets are empty and the city has been abandoned since the attack. The Imperial Palace is still standing, albeit in decrepit conditions from years of neglect, and the once picturesque, historical streets now sit in ruin. Outsiders may still find the structures of famous landmarks, but they are nowhere near as glorious as they once were and many of them have suffered heavy damage.
The main point of interest in Kyoto is the Old Kyoto Base, where the Japan branch of LILITH has sent some operatives. In terms of structure, the Kyoto Base looks similar to that of Neo Tokyo, with the remnants of a training ground, research labs and dormitories free to explore. Once upon a time, this base was filled with LILITH personnel. What had happened to them, along with all the other residents of Kyoto, is anyone’s guess.
With the lack of human interference, Kyoto has become overrun with wild animals such as macaques, deer, foxes and tanuki. A herd of boar-like Kaiju, the Yama-Kujira, have also taken their place at the top of the ecosystem.
▶ 003 EMERALD BEACH, OKINAWA.
Welcome to Emerald Beach in Okinawa! Filled with soft sand, hot sun, and clear, beautiful waves sprawl as far as the eye can see. The water appears to be cleaner than that found in Tokyo Bay and there are fish still swimming around in the ocean. A true vacation paradise...if you ignore the occasional cluster of coconut crabs that inhabit the beach.
Nearby to the beach, there are many abandoned fruit farms (such as watermelon, dragon fruits, mango and pineapples) that may have fresh produce for harvest. Some of these fruits have grown humongous in size.
▶ 004 LAS VEGAS, NEVADA.
When one passes through the data portal, they will see the refuge city of Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. Similar to Neo Tokyo, it is also rich in life and known as the city that never sleeps. Incidentally, it is also famously noted as a place of endless vice. The city is built up around a strip of land of roughly 4.2 miles. A vast majority of the city was built up over the wreckage of the old, and some fixtures were simply made new with whatever was left preexisting. The Mojave Desert has expanded towards surrounding cities, though it will take a vehicle to get there in a timely manner. The city has no shortage of hotels and with each hotel, a casino.

The closest accessible area is the Tokyo Bay, which there are train lines that run there. However, due to some destruction, the trains may not take a character all the way to the bay area. They may have to walk roughly an hour or two the rest of the way by following the rail tracks.
As far as the beach goes, it is nothing glamorous. In fact, a lot of people steer clear of beaches and bodies of water as some kaiju have been known to come from them. It's a bit trashy. The sea is salt water, but it isn't a pretty color anymore.. more grimy than anything else. There's a lack of fish and any sea life, really... (no whales from what anyone can see.)
Outsiders are free to travel to the beach and will not have any consequences for doing so. Swimming in the water will not harm them and nothing will attack them.
For now.
When the mod team has a chance, we will add Tokyo Bay to the LOCATIONS list.

You may still use the VR machines for this purpose if that's preferred by the character.
PLAYER SUBMITTED BUSINESSES
Note that mods may reject a submission or ask for some alteration if we do not find it fits well with the setting.
Also note that other characters may handwave their employment in the business. We're not fussed with whether or not you want to make yourself manager, but do take into account your character's skill set and length of time working there.
lmk if this is okay! :-)

The food is quite cheap and portions are ridiculously large. Chef's Choice tends to frequent the more dangerous and destitute neighborhoods around Neo Tokyo.
The owner of the business is some unidentified angel investor type who was amused enough by Kaito's business proposal to create and fund the operation.

Type of Business: Flower Shop

The natural flowers are considered to be novel and quite expensive but sometimes you can find "damaged" flowers that have various imperfections or are falling out of season for cheaper prices.
The shop is owned by an elderly couple, both of whom reminiscence over how hard it is to find certain plants they remember from their youths.

Characters in the game: Tezcatlipoca
Name of Business: 12 Steps Down
Type of Business: (Dive) Bar
Brief Description:
The diveiest of dive bars, 12 Steps Down gets its name from the fact that a fairly nondescript door opens to a staircase that leads, you guessed it, 12 steps down to the basement level bar. The bar itself is small, essentially consisting 90% of the bar area itself, with a few standing room only high tops at the end. You'd think this makes a small, intimate bar space, but the vibe is distinctly more chaotic and punk, since the alcohol on offer isn't great, but it is cheap. It's the last bar in the area to close, and the clientele reflects that distinction as the night goes on. It may not be a great bar, but it's one held with a lot of fondness because it's been around a long time and is home to many drunken stories.

FLOWERWORLD — FLOWER SHOP
LOCATION SUBMISSION: KAMAKURA
By the year 2278, Kamakura has been left to return to nature's embrace much like many other coastal cities around it. Constant kaiju attacks from the sea have driven the population further inland to other prefectures. One kaiju attack left a large chunk of the city to sink into the ocean from Yuigahama up to the Komachi shopping district. With much of the city sunken, the Yokosuka Rail Line was destroyed and thus train access is currently limited. Enoshima Island, once visible from Yuigahama, is notably missing its previously famous Sky Candle lighthouse if one observes it from Kamakura's hills.
Few residents remain in the more northern sections of the city and make their dwellings in the many hills that once made Kamakura a geographical fortress. Most of the buildings that haven't collapsed due to neglect or the ocean waves have been taken over by opportunistic plant life. The greater amount of water in the area has led to an abundance of amphibian life, turtles, and waterfowl. Foxes and tanuki can occasionally be spotted in the hills, but feral cat colonies are by far the most numerous and roaming packs of feral dogs can be seen at times.
